So Neirs is a bar/restaurant like many others. But there’s is something special about Neir’s and its not just the mind popping history of Goodfellas, Mae west or being one of the oldest bars in the country. No. Its Not! The NEIRS NYFAC partnership, brought together by Councilmember Liz Crowley, has proven successful with a total raised of $3,043 on May 17th. The all-day event started out with a round of Golf at Forest Park and culminated at the locally renowned Neir’s Tavern in the evening. Here Golfers, Non-Golfers, and civic leaders mingled and ate. Prizes for best golfers and gifts donated by local businesses were raffled off to all attendees. One of the event sponsor and attendee was the local Assemblyman Michael Miller who has previously presented a Proclamation from the New York State Assembly to Neir’s Tavern for being one of the oldest taverns in the country.
Organizers Loy Gordon, owner of Neir’s Tavern, longtime Woodhaven resident Dave Ross and John Nardella, has done these types of event for the past three years with each year going to a different cause. These events have risen well over $15,000 for needy causes for the past 3 years. “In these times of big businesses, the community and local business sponsors coming together to raise over $3,000 for New York Families for Autistic Children shows how effective local businesses can be to local needs”, says Loy Gordon. Local sponsors include Jamaica Gourmet deli, Park Place Florals, General Decorating, Gem Auction Corp, New Generation Kids, Primary Land Services, Shanes Team, Tyler Video Store, Marios Softball Team, Assemblyman Mike Miller, 5D Architecture, and Neir’s Tavern.
